The Central West Statistical Division comprises 11 local government areas (see the figure 1) with a total area of 374,766.1 square kilometres, or 21.6 per cent of the total area of the state. The region's estimated resident population at 30 June 2005 was 12,174 persons, or 0.3 per cent of the total Queensland population of 3,963,968
persons.
